Coca cola company discharged poisons in to Kelani river
The water supply to Municipal Councils of Colombo, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte and Dehiwala, Mt. Lavinia Urban Councils was interrupted for several hours today after oil contaminate Kelani River which feeds the City’s main water purification tanks at Ambatale.
Water Supply and Drainage Board stated that it has restarted the supply, and informed the public the normal supply would be restored after a few hours.
Water supply was disrupted as water of the Kelani River was contaminated due to an oil leak by the cocacola company located near the river in Biyagama on August 17th.
Later the Central Environmental Authority suspended indefinitely the environmental license of the coca cola factory.
The coca cola company use kelani river water to produce coca cola.
